With Brynn Alden, we offer an a-la-carte approach to our contracts. We source furnishings, fixtures, finishes, and equipment from various sources. If clients choose to seek other sources with our ideas, they are welcome to do so and are able to purchase from any sources they choose. We pride ourselves in working within all budgets and that would mean, we have to loosen the reigns sometimes. Designers are the expert eye and offer validation for your purchases.

We utilize other local contractors, electricians, plumbers, and installers of all kinds in order to move your project forward in the most timely manner as possible. Meeting with a designer at the conceptual phase of any project can make your project run smoothly.

Each client/designer relationship starts with a basic phone dialogue. We discuss briefly your project to ensure it is in fact within the scope of our service/product offerings. Once we determine your project is a good fit for our firm we schedule an initial consult in the space at hand. This is the best way for us to get to know each client and see the space for an initial site visit. In our first meeting, an open dialogue happens so we can get a clearer idea of your wants and needs. At this time we welcome any architectural drawings, blueprints, or photos the client has compiled as inspiration. We always start with your “most wanted” list. If need be, we whittle down from there.

As soon as you are envisioning a remodel or thinking of building a new home, you should call an interior designer. A major concentration of our clientele is in the East metro, St. Paul, and surrounding suburbs. We will travel to any destination our service is needed, however, travel expenses are charged back to the client.

• Set a budget.  You are the only one that can set your budget.  Think specifically about how much you want/have to spend on your project.  Once a budget is established, a project scope can be determined.  The budget is the driving force of every project.

• Prepare. The more information you can give us the better. Your desires, personal needs, preferences, and can be conveyed in both words and pictures. Collect photos from magazines, create an ideabook on Houzz (to be shared with us), or create a board to share on Pinterest.

• Be honest.  Don’t be afraid to tell us what you think.  You won’t hurt our feelings if you don’t like something.  Part of our job is to bring you different options.  You may not like them all and we understand that.

Be up front. Tell us. There won’t be any hurt feelings! By the time we start your project, we would have hoped to establish trust and a relationship to where you feel comfortable enough to express any doubts about your project. You style has many ways of presenting itself. Our design ideas are only the first step to defining “your style”. Along the way, during the design development phase, the following may be used individually or all inclusive; sketches, design boards, and 3D renderings of your new space. All of which will help in developing the final design solution.

This is quite common. Sometimes being exposed to the multitude of options, styles, finishes, colors, materials, and prices, the client becomes completely confused. Our job is to help you discover what you like. We do this by listening and showing you options, as well as doing our best to stay within your “realistic” budget.

Many people use the terms interchangeably. However, decorators genrally focus on the decorative elements of a home which may include but are not limited to: paint colors, furniture selection, décor and accessories, window treatments, bedding etc. Interior designers do everything a decorator does plus more. Designers generally have formal educational training from a post-secondary school. An interior designer should have knowledge of interior architecture principals, drafting skills, general plumbing and electrical, general space planning knowledge, and general building code guidelines at a minimum.

Unlike the big box stores, we don’t have a one style fits all mentality. This can be tricky because it is sometimes difficult for you to know how much things cost. We work in Design every day and we have a feel for what things cost and can share this in our “discovery process”. As with all purchases, prices vary widely for different levels of quality, style, and color. It is of the utmost importance to define what you are willing/able to invest so that effort is not expended on your part by designing a project that is too costly for your budget. We can create high quality work with almost any budget.

While it is true that many retail establishments may offer “free” advice and assistance, and that sometimes, though not always, those consultants may be very good at what they do; it is also true that although the advice they offer you is “free,” they definitely are not working for “free” and their primary allegiance and obligation is to their employer. Don’t be fooled by “free” design, they may sell you unwanted or overpriced product to make up the fee for the “free” design.
